Used 2017 Kia Optima Overview
The gas powered Kia Optima lineup returns largely unchanged, but the Kia Optima Hybrid redesigned for 2017. The 2.0-liter GDI four-cylinder on the hybrid, with an estimated 154 horsepower, mated to an upgraded six-speed automatic and coupled with a hybrid starter generator. A clutch and 38 kW electric motor replace the traditional torque converter, designed to power assistance the engine and provide better off-the-line acceleration. Kia states the transition between EV and hybrid modes are seamless. Total combined output estimated at 193 hp. The new Driver Assistance System features Kia’s first application of Coasting Guide, which cues the driver on when to coast and brake. The Hybrid boasts a more compact, lightweight, lithium-polymer battery pack with a 13% increase in capacity to 1.62 kWh. The battery now fits beneath the trunk floor, resulting in a bigger, more practical load area and allows for 60/40 split-folding rear seats.
