We know that the continuously variable transmission (CVT) has a bad reputation. But the guys from Engineering Explained is telling us why this is wrong. As you already know, any dual-clutch transmission will drop the revs away from the point at which maximum power is achieved.
 
And this is how you lost time. In the CVT the maximum power is maintained and makes the car considerably quicker. As you know, the Formula 1 team Williams realized this thing and introduced the CVT back in 1993. Yes it delivered a strange noise but the car was several seconds quicker a lap.
