Peugeot 308, the recently named 2014 European Car of the Year, has gained a new 130 horsepower 1.2 liter three cylinder turbocharged petrol unit named PureTech e-THP. Under the supervision of the authority UTAC  (Union Technique de l’Automobile, Motocycle et Cycle), such a model was tested at the Almeria circuit in Spain and managed to return an impressive 82.5 mpg. 

The French model featured a six speed transmission and was driven for more than 32 hours to empty the 51.4 liter fuel tank. According to Peugeot, the new 308 managed to cover a distance of 1,124.7 miles. 

Of course, in real world traffic conditions the engine will be less frugal. According to Peugeot, the 308 equipped with the PureTech e-THP will represent a benchmark for its sector for most economical vehicle with a petrol engine.

The new 308 is also available with a benchmark BlueHDi 1.6-litre diesel engine with 120 horsepower and a Combined Drive Cycle fuel economy of 91.1 mpg and lowest CO2 sector emissions of just 82g/km, so with the Peugeot 308 demonstrates the highest quality of its design and overall capability.
