Opel Insignia will use a new diesel engine, starting this spring. Opel, a Russelsheim manufacturer, announced a new 2.0 liter unit for its medium-sized model.

The new 2.0 CDTI can boast reduced noise levels in every rpm range compared to its predecessor and is five decibels quieter when idling. Described as being one of the most quiet engines in the segment, the new 2.0 liter unit comes with a specific output of 87 hp per liter, a slightly higher power density as the next-generation 1.6 CDTI.

The engine delivers 170 hp and can guarantee up to 400 Nm, available from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. The maximum power is accessed at just 3,750 rpm. The four cylinder unit boasts around 4 percent more power and 14 percent more torque while maintaining exactly the same consumption as it predecessor and meeting Euro 6 emission standards.

The Insignia with the new engine reaches a maximum speed of 225 km/h (140 mph), an increase of 5 km/h (3 mph). The sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 9.0 seconds, almost half a second quicker than its predecessor.

Both the Insignia Sports Tourer and Insignia sedan with the new 2-liter turbo diesel are available with a six-speed gearbox and front or four-wheel drive.
