Opel introduces the new 1.6 liter CDTi engine in the current Astra GTC range. The unit will replace the old 1.7 CDTi unit.

The new engine, developed by GM in its Turin development center, delivers 136 hp and 320 Nm, which is 6 hp and 20 Nm more than the old engine.

Equipped with start-stop system, braking energy recuperation system as standard and an improved six-speed manual transmission, the new Astra GTC can offer an average consumption of just 4.1 liters/100 km and 109 g/km emissions, meaning it will respect the Euro 6 emissions.

The 0-100 sprint is also improved to 10.2 seconds, while the 80 km/h to 120 km/h in fifth gear takes 8.9 seconds instead of the previous 10.5 seconds. The new engine also offers a 198 km/h top speed.

The new Astra GTC 1.6 CDTi is already available on the European market, with prices starting at 24.390 euro on the local German market.
