Mercedes will continue to expand the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission availability inside its range, with the S-Class Coupe next on the list.
The new gearbox, set to improve fuel efficiency and sportiness, will be available only on the S500 version, with chances of being used along other changes in the next future.
The 9G-Tronic gearbox will be responsible of managing 455 hp and 700 Nm, transfering all these resources to the rear axle. The 4.7 liter V8 engine of the S500 version is not the only unit that will use the 9G-Tronic.
The transmission is already introduced on the 2014 E350 BlueTec since last year and can work with both rear wheel and all wheel drive and also on hybrid powertrains. According to Mercedes, the new 9G-Tronic is the same size as the seven speed unit, but can manage a torque up to 1000 Nm.
The new 9G-Tronic is also used on the CLS 220 BlueTEC, CLS 250 BlueTEC, CLS 350 BlueTEC and CLS 500.
