It’s been more than two years since we have heard the first rumor for a BMW 8 Series revival, but until today we didn’t have anything crisp. Two days ago, Automobile Magazine reported the Bavarian manufacturer is working on a sporty coupe and convertible that are developed in order to compete against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and S-Class Cabrio.

The name of this model will be 8 Series. Now, the guys from BMW Blog says these two vehicles from BMW have already received the G14/G15 internal codenames.

If the info in correct, this means that the 8 Series has got the green light. The project is scheduled to be on market in 2019 or 2020 and will be the last model of the BMW to be delivered on the CLAR architecture.

But those new models means someone will have to leave. Unfortunately this will be the 6 Series Coupe which will soon reach the end of production. Also the 6 Series Gran Coupe will be eliminated in order not to cannibalize with the 7 Series.
