After a long series of spyshots and renderings, we finally get the chance to see the fastest Mercedes SLS AMG. Today, the Stuttgart-based manufacturer unveiled the new SLS AMG Black Series, the exclusive version of its supercar, ready to deliver more power and better performances.

The new version is based on the same 6.2 litre V8 engine that sports an extra 39HP compared to the recently revised SLS AMG GT, for a total of 631 hp, though its maximum torque has dropped by 11 lb-ft to 468 lb-ft or 634Nm.

The 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint takes 3.6 seconds, 0.1 seconds less than the non-Black Series SLS AMG. Even so, the supercar is capable to return 20.6 mpg UK (17 mpg US or 13.7 liters/100 km) and has CO2 emissions of 321 g/km.

To achive such performances, Mercedes put its new SLS AMG Black Series on a diet. By replacing the standard battery with a lithium-ion one, they have reduced weight by a further 7.9 kg. In general terms, the new Black Series is 70 kg lighter than the standard SLS.

Flared fenders with an added width of 0.5 inches (front) and 1.0 inch (rear) on each side create the necessary space for the 10.8-inch and 12.8-inch sports tires. Tinted headlamps and black surrounds for the rear lights give the SLS AMG Black Series a muscular and aggressive look.

The vehicle’s aerodynamic balance is optimized by front, rear and side skirts and a rear diffuser, all in a signature Black Series design. The package features extensive use of CFRP on the front splitter, side sills and rear skirt.

In the cabin, customers can combine the black “designo” leather with either black or red Alcantara trim. The flat-bottom steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara.
