GM wanted to underline just how much accent was put on aerodynamics and creating downforce by the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, so they released a video in which they detail just that.
They say that lapping the Nurburgring in 7:41.27 seconds wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of the aerodynamics team, so we can only congratulate GM this time on a job well done.
The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 produces 580 HP (432 kW) and can reach speeds of 170 mph (273 Km/h), and among the seven measures that were taken in order to create downforce there are a specially designed front fascia which channels the air to the engine and the brakes, the vented hood which helps create lift at the front axle, the front splitter which makes the car stick to the road at high speeds and the front tire deflectors which push airflow around the rotating wheels.  
Other aerodynamic measures implemented by the ZL1 include belly pans (one beneath the engine cradle and one at the rear of the engine assembly) that help minimize turbulence under the car, rocker panels which help reduce lift and drag, and a rear spoiler which creates no less than 150 pounds of downforce.
The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will go on sale in 2012 and a convertible version will follow in 2013.
