Volkswagen Polo BlueGT

Volkswagen has unveiled the Polo BlueGT today in Geneva, a version which combines dynamic performance with extreme fule efficiency due to the ACT cylinder deactivation technology.

The Volkswagen Polo BlueGT uses a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder engine rated at 140 PS which requires just 4.7-litres of fuel per 100 Km (around 60 mpg UK rating) and which emits a forecasted 108 grams of CO2 per Km.

If the car is equipped with Volkswagen's 7-speed DSG transmission, those figures drop to 4.5-litres (62.8 mpg) and 105 grams respectively.

The Polo BlueGT can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 kmph) in 7.9 seconds and can hit a top speed of 130 ph (210 Km/h).

As we mentioned, at the heart of the Polo BlueGT is the new EA211 engine series with ACT cylinder

deactivation technology, which shuts down the second and third cylinders under light and medium loads. This way the car can save up to 0.4 litres of fuel per 100 Km, while at a constant speed of 50 kmph (30 mph), the savings can reach 1.0-litre per 100 Km.

Cylinder deactivation occurs between 1,2500 and 4,000 rpm at torque outputs of 25 to 100 Nm (18 to 74 lb-ft.).

Even though it is very economical, the Volkswagen BlueGT comes with sporty features such as 17 inch alloys, a 15 mm lowered suspension, a Polo GTI rear spoiler and bumpers, plus a black painted front grille and black door mirror caps.

On the inside the BlueGT features GTI instruments, sports seats, a leather trimmed steering wheel and black roof lining.

The Volkswagen BlueGT goes on sale in Europe in July. UK availability was not confirmed yet.
