Scion FR-S Concept

Toyota has lifted the wraps off the Scion FR-S Concept in New York today, a sports coupe inspired from the AE86 which uses a 2.0-litre boxer engine placed at the front, and which sends power the the rear wheels, hence the name (FR-S Front engine Rear wheel, Sport).

According to the automaker the Scion FR-S Concept will represent the starting point for a new production model which will enter the market next year, so except from the wheels, mirrors and maybe the diffuser everything else will most likely remain the same.

There are no details that specify performance or consumption yet, but Toyota claims the Scion FR-S will offer 'balanced performance and handling along with flexible utility and surprising MPG', so in other words we'll have to wait a little longer for the exact figures.

Jack Hollis, Scion vice president said that "Scion is always experimenting with new things," "The brand is iconic with the xB, adrenalized by the tC, and groundbreaking with the iQ. The FR-S will expand the brand into yet another new dimension that I know it is truly destined for."

As far as dimensions the Scion FR-S Concept measures 168.2 in length, 71.5 in width, 47.4 in height and has a wheelbase measuring 101.2

Other details offered about the Scion FR-S indicate that the flat-four cylinder engine can be mated with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission (steering wheel mounted paddles for the automatic) and the automaker also says the Concept make use of four-piston-caliper front brakes with 18 inch annular carbon ceramic matrix rotors.
