Porsche will attack this year's Nurburgring's 24h endurance race with a new version of their 911 GT3 Hybrid, which besides producing more power is also 20 percent lighter and requires less fuel.

This new version is called the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 and its powering system composed from a 4.0-litre 6-cylinder boxer engine at the rear and two electric motors driving the front wheels can now produce a total of 670 HP. 470 HP come from the petrol engine, while the rest come from the electrical motors, which instead of developing 60 kW / 80 HP as on the previous version, are now able to deliver 70 kW / 100 HP each.

These additional 200 HP are activated through the use of the throttle pedal and can also be activated manually during overtaking.

The electric flywheel accumulator designed to store rotational energy has also been improved and is now housed with the other hybrid components in a carbon fibre safety cell on the passenger side.

The cockpit of the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 has also been revised, with most of the controls now available on the steering wheel, while the rest of the car's functions can get activated via backlit buttons placed on the center console.
