Peugeot 208 Unveiled

The French from Peugeot have unveiled their brand-new B segment Supermini - the Peugeot 208.

This new model, internally known as the A9 which will be offered in two body styles (3-door and 5-door), tries to reinvent the principles that made the 205, 206 and 207 popular by giving them a new twist in order to appeal to a wide variety of customers.

In order to achieve this the French have applied the 'regeneration' formula to basically everything related to this car, meaning its architecture, style, ergonomics, driving experience and efficiency have all been improved.

The new Peugeot 208 weights 110 Kg less than the 207, considering the range starts at 975 Kg, has an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.29, and even though its size is very compact (7 cm smaller in length and 1 cm shorter than the 207) its

occupant space has been 'noticeably increased' and even provides 5 additional cm of Knee space at the rear.

Its style is obviously influenced by the latest design trends initiated by the new 508, with some of its aesthetic elements including the floating grille and the boomerang rear lamps. With the 208 Peugeot wanted to create a 'ball of energy' in terms of appearance, and the exterior style is matched at the interior by the completely re-thought instruments and controls.

As far as propulsion the new Peugeot 208 will uses the automaker's latest e-HDi micro-hybridation system on all of its five models, and even though the company does not give detailed information regarding each engine option it mentions that the diesel range will start at 87 g/Km of CO2 and 3.4-litres per 100 Km while the petrol range will include 3-cylinder 1.0 and 1.2-litre VTi units that will enable CO2 emissions of 99 g/Km and 4.3-litres per 100Km in terms of efficiency.

Four of the five Peugeot 208 model will also be equipped with Stop & Start technology as standard.
