Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake Unveiled

The highly anticipated Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake was finally unveiled by the German automaker during the weekend after a series of leaked photos has started to circulate around the web.

The car is described as having the proportions of a coupe, and we have to admit that even though we had our doubts at first, the CLS Shooting Brake does indeed look very good. 

According to CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche: "Any memorable machine is equal parts art and science. A car has to first deliver in function - the ticket of entry - and then in fascination: the ticket to real excitement. The CLS Shooting Brake excels on both accounts - unlike any other car in the market".

With its appearance inspired by the Shooting Brake concept revealed in 2012, this new addition to the CLS range features LED headlights and taillights, a dynamic roof sloping back towards the rear and rear roof spoiler plus an interior which apart from all premium materials used in the standard model, also features a wooden luggage compartment floor.

The luggage compartment can accommodate 590 - 1550-litres worth of cargo, and is also equipped with aluminium loading rails and lined with high-quality carpet.

The engines that are going to be offered on the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake are a 2.1-litre 4-cylinder diesel rated at 204 HP (150 kW) for the CLS 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a 3.0-litre V6 diesel producing 265 HP (195 kW) on the CLS 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, a 3.5-litre petrol V6 generating 306 HP (225 kW) on the CLS 350 BlueEFFICIENCY and also a twin-turbo 4.6-litre V8 petrol outputting 408 HP (300 kW) on the CLS 500 BlueEFFICIENCY.

As you would expect, the most efficient version is the CLS 250 CDI which can cover 100 Km on 5.3-litres of diesel fuel (CO2 emissions of 139 grams per Km), while at the other end of the spectrum, the CLS 500 can sprint from 0 to 100 Km in 5.3 seconds a hit a top speed of 250 Km/h.
