The Mercedes-Benz S Class has been one of the leading luxury cars on the market over the past couple of years. With a hefty price tag and some amazing features, it has been a solid seller. With the 2014 model on the horizon, now is the best time to analyze the features and specifications of the model and discover what’s new. The main question here is whether Mercedes can actually improve the existing features of the S Class. After all, hardly anyone could argue that the car delivers superior performance and its features rival that of any other luxury car available today.

Lower Price

If you were to hear that the price of the Mercedes-Benz S Class has been changed, you would automatically think that there has been an increase. Given that the car costs $75K already, how high could the company go? If you were thinking that way, you would be wrong. Mercedes has actually lowered the price of the S Class for its 2014 model. The list price of the S550 is $93,825, a drop of over $2,000. The price includes destination charges, so you can buy it for this amount. However, you can opt for add-ons that will increase the final cost of the car for you.

Enhanced Safety

Mercedes has enhanced the safety system you can get with the 2014 S Class. Available as an add-on, there is a special $2,800 Driver Assistance Package. The package includes:

  • Blind spot warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rear-facing radar to prevent collisions
  • Cross-traffic alert
  • Lane keeping assist
  • Automatic pre-collision braking

This makes driving the S Class a much safer experience for you. However, you do have to spend extra cash on buying the Driver Assistance Package.

S63 4Matic

Mercedes has enhanced the S63, bringing it up to 577-hp and featuring a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. The company has changed the name of the model to the S63 4Matic. It does carry a hefty price tag which amounts to $140,425. Given the supped-up features of the version, it is well worth the price.

Rear Camera

The new S Class comes with a rear camera. You can use it when backing up to avoid bumping into parked cars or people. This feature was missing from the 2013 model, which was surprising. The great thing is that you don’t need to pay extra for the rear camera.

Miscellaneous Features

There are a number of features that have been added to the S Class. However, the most prominent is LED lighting that covers the length and breadth of the car, both inside and out. It also has a panoramic sunroof and you can start the car without using your key.

These are some of the new features that you will find in the 2014 Mercedes Benz S-Class. It may seem surprising that Mercedes has lowered the price of the car while adding several new features to the car, but who’s going to look a gift horse in the mouth?
