The trend of manufacturing small sized sports utility vehicles is becoming popular. Many manufacturers have introduced such SUVs with various features and specifications. Dodge has also introduced a small SUV which does look rather appealing. The latest small SUV by Dodge is known as the 2014 Journey. Even though this is a small sized SUV, it has the muscular appearance of a regular Dodge vehicle.

SUVs such as the 2014 Dodge Journey are usually good for small families. However, the Journey claims a lot more. Whether or not the small SUV will become a hit amongst Dodge lovers is yet to be seen. Let’s look at what the 2014 Dodge Journey has to offer:

Engine Specifications

The 2014 Dodge Journey engine is available in two specifications. The first is an in-line version and the other one is a V-type engine. The inline engine has four cylinders to it and the V-type has 6 cylinders. Let’s look at the performance specifications for each variant.

In-Line 4-Cylinder Engine: The in-line type engine has a capacity of 2.4 liters. This engine has been introduced in the 2014 Dodge Journey as an economical option. The 2.4-liter engine has a front-wheel drive system. The fuel mileage is not very attractive for a 2.4-liter engine. The engine is rated at 19 miles per gallon in the city.

On the highway, the engine will give you up to 26 miles to a gallon. Even though the fuel mileage is not impressive, the in-line type engine does generate a significant amount of horsepower. It is rated at 173 horsepower and 166 pounds of torque per feet. This might just be the feature that compels people to opt for the four-cylinder variant.

V-Type 6-Cylinder Engine: The V-6 engine has truly impressive specifications. The engine has a capacity of 3.6 liters. The best part about getting the 2014 Dodge Journey variant with this engine is that you get enhanced stability. This is because the V-6 versions are all-wheel drives. The 3.6-liter engine definitely exceeds the in-line variant in terms of performance.

The engine generates a staggering 283 horsepower and 260 pounds of torque. Furthermore, the gas mileage of this engine variant is better as compared to the 2.4-liter variant. This engine will give you up to 16 miles to a gallon in the city. If you are driving on the highway, you can get up to 24 miles to a gallon. This is a minor difference compared to the 100 horsepower boost.

Transmission Specifications

The transmission in both of the engine variants is different. The 2014 Dodge Journey does not offer a manual option. Both transmissions are automatic. The 2.4-liter engine variant 2014 Dodge Journey offers a four-speed transmission. On the contrary, the 3.6-liter variant offers a six-speed auto transmission; the model number for this transmission is 62TE.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of the 2014 Dodge Journey definitely has something new. However, it fails to impress. The grille and headlamp design of the 2014 Dodge Journey don’t bring anything new to the table. However, the small SUV definitely offers a lot when it comes to comfort. Moreover, it has a good road clearance level, which makes it suitable for minor rough terrain driving.

Interior Design

Much like the exterior, the interior design of the 2014 Dodge Journey is quite simple. Of course there are new designs incorporated in the overall theme. The SUV is able to seat up to five passengers, which makes it great for a small sized family and the seats are very comfortable. The 2014 Dodge Journey definitely offers ample legroom in the front and rear seats.

All in all, the 2014 Dodge Journey is a good investment, especially if you consider the price.
