The Porsche Cayman reengineered for 2017 – including its name, 718 Cayman, a nod to the Porsche 718 from the late-1950s, with its flat-four engine. Similarly, the 718 Cayman was given a 4-cylinder engine. The base model has been fitted with a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine with 280 lb.-ft. of torque and 300 hp. The S version got a 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer with 309 lb.-ft. of torque and 350 hp. Both powerplants designed for quicker acceleration while achieving improved fuel economy. The 718 Cayman additionally received freshened exterior, upgraded brakes, a completely retuned suspension (with additional improvements to the available active suspension system), a redesigned dashboard, more-direct electric steering, and the newest generation of Porsche Communication Management with a state-of-the-art touchscreen. Porsche’s optional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, included fuel-saving virtual gears. LED headlamps were available.
