Volkswagen is going to introduce a new version of their Cross Coupe Concept in Geneva tomorrow. The car will look almost identical to the one showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show back in November, apart from the new paint scheme which now uses red instead of grey, but the big new in this case is what is under the skin.
Instead of a plug-in petrol-electric hybrid system which made use of a TSI direct injection turbo petrol engine, this time the automaker has decided to use a turbodiesel direct-injection engine (TDI) in order to make the Cross Coupe Concept more frugal.
This 1.8-litre TDI engine works in conjunction with two electric motors for a combined system output of 306 PS and a top speed of 220 Km/h (137 mph).
Volkswagen Cross Coupe TDI Plug-in Hybrid Concept has a kerb weight of 1,858 Kg and its consumption and efficiency figures are really impressive at 1.8-litres of fuel per 100 Km (130 mph US rating) and 46 grams of CO2 per Km.
