Car and Driver has came across information which says that the German automaker will bring a hotter version of the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
Dubbed as the Beetle R, the car will be fitted with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine delivering approximately 240 HP (177 kW), which meas less powerful than the Golf R but more capable than the Beetle Turbo.
Unlike the Golf R which features an all-wheel-drive power train, the Volkswagen Beetle R is expected to be using a front wheel drive platform along with a stiffer suspension and a series of sportier looking elements at both the exterior and interior.
The same source says Volkswagen is also considering developing the Beetle R Cabrio, but is first needs to gauge customer interest before greenlighting it.
As far as pricing the Volkswagen Beetle R is most likely going to hover around the 25,000 USD mark, but we’ll get back with more details when/if the automaker will release them.
