A jury of European journalists have nominated their candidates for Car of the Year. They jury is made out of 58 members and here are the seven nominees: Alfa Romeo Giulia, Citroën C3, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Nissan Micra, Peugeot 3008, Toyota C-HR, and Volvo S90/V90.

As you would expect, most of the nominees are from Europe but Japan is strongly represented by two models. A very interesting fact is that no US model is on the list. And the second most important fact is that on the list there are no EV or hybrid models.

As a reminder, Fiat is the most decorated in the award’s history with nine wins, followed by Renault and Ford and Opel. For the final stage, each member of the jury will award 25 points to divide between at least five of the candidates, with the winner to be announced on March 6, 2017, at the Geneva Motor Show.

Last year’s award went to the Opel Astra. The Volkswagen Passat won in 2015, the Peugeot 308 in 2014 and the Volkswagen Golf in 2013.
