Nissan Leaf reached 50.000 sales worldwide, a new record for a mass production electric vehicle.

This is a production figure that makes the Leaf electric car best selling of all time and will announce some key figures. All cars sold have traveled over 260 million miles more than the distance from Earth to the Sun.

A Japanese copy reached 175 000 km while a copy sold in Spain has traveled over 43,000 miles in a single year. This example is part of the Spanish 7000 Leaf that were sold in 17 countries in Europe since its launch.

However, Nissan’s ambitions to sell 20,000 cars per year in the U.S. have stumbled upon a notorious lack of charging infrastructure which does not encourage customers to try the experiment of 100% electric.

Thus, last year Nissan has sold only half the expected volume in the U.S. (about 10,000 cars). Leaf which has been improved in several areas has also seen its price drop $ 6000 earlier this year
