Lexus showcased concept cars under the theme “Pushing the Boundaries of the Electrified Experience” at the first Japan Mobility Show 2023. The LF-ZC concept represents a far more hopeful electric future for Lexus. The LF-ZC is an eye-catching concept that will be built on an entirely new electric architecture.

It’s tough to characterize the vehicle’s design, as it looks more like a sedan than a hatchback. From the front, it appears like a Lexus, with a fresh take on the brand’s headlamp design. The roofline is low, like a coupe.

The LF-ZC is 187.0 inches in length, being around the same size as the existing Lexus IS sedan, although it is unclear if it will replace the sedan in the future. By EV standards, its height of 54.7 inches is low. A drag coefficient of less than 0.2 should also be beneficial.

Lexus says that controls have been compressed into two digital touch pads, with one handling vehicle functions and the other handling infotainment. There is also an AI speech recognition system known as “Butler,” which aims to provide a more personalized driving experience by collecting driving data.

The company has also unveiled a concept version of the LF-ZL SUV, an even larger and grander sister model that will use the same chassis. According to Lexus, the LF-ZC and LF-ZL will feature a next-generation prismatic battery pack that will allow them to achieve approximately twice the range of conventional EVs.

The Japanese brand says that a production version of the LF-ZC vehicle will be available in 2026.
