BMW has oficially unveiled the X5 Protection VR6. As the name suggests this armored vehicle comes with VR6 protection which meets VPAM ballistics requirements are fulfilled.

The car is based on the revised X5 facelift and can be easly recognized. Under the familiar skin there is molded high-strength steel plates shaped to fit the body in the area of the doors, side frame, roof, and bulkhead.

The trunk divedier is also armored and the underbody has an aluminum shrapnel shield. Optional, the car can be fitted with additional roof armor.

Under the hood is a 4.4 liter V8 engine which can deliver 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. The not to 100 km/h is done in 5.9 seconds, which is a great time judging by the fact that the mass is now bigger. The top speed of the new BMW X5 Protection VR6 is clocked at 131 mph.
