The German automaker Audi receives 2009 Award for Mechatronic Innovation. This inaugural award was presented by the Association of German Engineers (VDI) for Audi’s new dynamic steering innovation that integrates numerous mechanical and electronic systems offering enhanced driving pleasure along with safety and comfort.
The new system developed by Audi automatically adjusts the steering ratio and steering force to the vehicle’s speed in order to ensure that steering characteristics are optimum in every situation. The necessary steering assistance is given by an intermediate gear driven by an electric motor making Audi the first automotive manufacturer to incorporate the innovative harmonic drive in a steering system.
Audi’s dynamic steering technology, winner of 2009 Award for Mechatronic Innovationcan be ordered in conjunction with Audi drive select and is already an an option for the  A4, S4, A4 allroad, A5, S5, A5 Cabriolet, and Audi Q5.
