Audi has added a new 1.4 liter turbocharged petrol engine with Cylinder-on-Demand technology in the A1 and A3 hatchback ranges in Britain. The power unit is capable of developing 140 HP at 5,000 rpm and 250 Nm of torque between 1,500 rpm and 3,500 rpm.

The A1 offers fuel economy of 60.1mpg CO2 emissions of 109g/km while is being able to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in just 7.9 seconds. In this case, the price starts from £16,740. In the same time, the five-door in performs this distance in 8 seconds.

The A3 CoD offers a fuel economy of 60.1mpg and the prices start from £20,055, which is £850 more than the current 1.4 TFSI with 120bhp. Also, this new engine has the ability to shut down the second and third cylinders during low and intermediate loads to improve fuel consumption.

The engine speeds between 1,400 and 4,000 rpm, and torque between approximately 25 and 75 Nm. This way it improves fuel economy.
