Volkswagen unveiled some new information about the next generation Passat, se to be fully unveiled during the first day of July. The public debut is scheduled for this year Paris Motor Show.

The new generation will use a MQB platform with intensive use of aluminium so that the total weight should be 85 kg lower than of the current generation. This will also improve the fuel efficiency by 20%. The exterior dimenssions will be smaller than of the current car, but the interior space will be improved, as well as luggage space.
The engine range will feature the introduction of a new four-cylinder, 2.0-litre, bi-turbo diesel delivering 240 PS and 500 Nm from 1,750 rpm. This engine will be available only with a new seven-speed DSG gearbox and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. Along this new unit there is going to be also a hybrid version, capable of offering 31 miles in electric mode only and a maximum range of 600 miles.
Inside the car there is going to be an Active Info display with a fully configurable interactive 12.3-inch TFT display; a heads-up display; the latest Modular Infotainment System, including the Car-Net remote app; a further-developed 360-degree Area View function; and the latest generation of Park Assist.
