Volkswagen is introducing its first electric vehicle on the UK market: the new generation e-Golf. The zero emissions compact car is based on the hatchback version of the standard car and replaces the conventional engine with an electric one, also offering some aerodynamic tweaks.

The electric motor is ready to deliver 115 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque, which can be enough for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in approximately 10 seconds. The battery pack can guarantee an average range between 70 and 90 miles, depending on driving style and charging behavior.

A Combined Charging System (CCS) allows 80 percent battery charge within 30 minutes. Very good solution when you are in a hurry. The electric Golf also comes with three driving profiles designed to preserve energy (“Normal”, “Eco”, and “Eco+”) and three driver-selectable regenerative braking levels.

The standard equipment, called SEL Premium is comprehensive and includes 5.8-inch touchscreen navigation system and infotainment center, Bluetooth, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Automatic Post-Collision Braking system, Leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, LED headlights, bespoke 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, keyless access, Heatable front seats, rearview camera and front and rear Park Distance Control.

The e-Golf starts at $35,445 (plus $820 destination and delivery) for the SEL Premium model. In dealerships, the cars will arrive in November 2014.
