The Blue Oval has unveiled the 2013 Ford Escape today in Las Vegas, with their newest SUV arriving on both the US and European markets in 2012.
In Europe the Escape will be sold as the Kuga, and according to Ford this latest generation is not only lighter but also longer and more spacious that the outgoing version, providing more space to passengers at the rear in particular.
The 2013 Ford Escape is part of the automaker’s ONE Ford global strategy (just like the Fiesta or the Focus), and despite its considerable size, the two powering options announced so far, include a 1.6-litre EcoBoost rated at 173 hp and a 2.0-litre EcoBoost plant generating 237 HP.
In the US the new Escape will also be available with a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder unit, while transmission choices will include both manuals and automatics.
The Europeans will see the Kuga at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March, which is when Ford will announce more details regarding the EU specific powertrain and features.
Just like the Focus, the 2013 Ford Escape features an active grille shutter (offered on all versions), which helps improve aerodynamics and cools the engine better, while at the interior the list of highlights includes the MyFord Touch infotainment system them and the BLIS (Blind Spot Information System).
Pricing for the 2013 Ford Escape was not announced yet.
