A few months after introducing the new generation coupe, the German sports car manufacturer is now unveiling the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet.
Based on the 911 Carrera and the 911 Carrera S, the Cabriolet version features an innovative roof concept that uses magnesium in order to keep weight down, and which retains the typical 911 roof line when closed.
Porsche says these new Cabrio models are significantly lighter than its predecessors, while in terms of power, the new models are using the same engines as the hard top variants. This means the 2012 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet will use a 3.4-litre unit rated at 350 HP (257 kW) while the Carrera S Cabriolet will develop 400 horses (294 kW) from its 3.8-litre 6-cylinder plant.
Both models are equipped with a 7-speed manual gearbox and are expected to consume less than 10-litres of fuel per 100 Km.
Porsche’s Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) transmission which will offer even higher efficiency and faster acceleration times will also be available as an optional extra.
On the company’s home market the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet will carry a price tag of 100,532 Euros (114,931 Euros for the Carrera S Cabriolet), and both versions will go on sale on March 3rd.
