A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTo managed to shatter the record for the most expensive car in the world during this year Bonham auctions.

The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO wears the chassis number 3851 GT and managed to be sold foe a total of $38,115,000 USD. This is the most ever paid for an automobile at auction.

The car has a long history. It was owned by Italian enthusiast Fabrizio Violati and was the centerpiece of his Collezione Maranello Rosso of Ferraris previously on view in the Republic of San Marino.

The price of the car went up in the air since it was bought by Violati. The Italian acquired the 250 GTO in 1965 for 2,500,000 Lire, then around $4,000 USD, equating to around £22,000/$33,500 today.

Back then, the supercar was originally finished in metallic pale grey with lengthwise red, white and blue centerline stripes. Its most recent owner was French privateer Jo Schlesser.

The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO and the others Ferrari cars present at Bonhams auction managed to attract 65 million USD.
