Volkswagen unveiled today the 2014 Passat BlueMotion Concept. The car will be internationally revealed next week at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The German sedan was designed to show how fuel efficient non-hybrids can be. 

On the outside, the German concept features a Reef Blue Metallic exterior, a revised radiator grille and a rear spoiler. Inside the cockpit we see a two-tone theme with leather seats, gloss black accessories and carbon fiber elements.

Under the hood of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion Concept is a 1.4 liter TSI engine that can deliver 150 horsepower and 249 Nm peak of torque. The petrol unit was equipped with a direct injection, a start-stop system and with the Active Cylinder Management system that can deactivate two cylinders at low speeds.

To minimize mechanical drag, the model features a function that enables the DSG gear box to decouple from the engine as soon as the driver stops pushing the acceleration. 

Under these conditions, the 2014 Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion Concept comes with an estimated highway fuel economy rating of 42 mpg US (50.4 mpg UK / 5.6 L/100km).
