Seat has been busy working on its first electric car platform, designed, developed and manufactured in Spain.
Their
work is not completed, as the company "envisages hybrid and electric
car production from 2015" but for now have unveiled prototype versions
based on this new technology called the Altea XL Electric Ecomotive and
the Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive which will be provided to governmental
institutions in Catalonia and Madrid.
SEAT’s President James Muir said that "Customers demand a more sustainable
form of mobility, but their needs are diverse. Therefore, we believe
that a parallel strategy of developing two different technologies will
put SEAT in the best position to meet their needs".
The Seat
Altea XL Electric Ecomotive is a car with a range of 135 Km which uses
an engine delivering 115 HP (85 kW) and 270 Nm of torque and batteries
placed under the rear seats and boot. Its top speed is 135 Km/h and
apart from featuring rooftop photovoltaic cells the Altea XL Electric is
also equipped with a sophisticated regeneration system with adjustable
braking torque.
As for the Seat Leon TwinDrive, the Spanish
company claims this is an all-purpose plug-in hybrid that uses an
traditional internal combustion engine which can cover 52 Km and hit a
top speed of 120 Km/h in electric mode, and with consumption figures of
1.7-litres per 100/Km and emissions of 39 g/Km in combined mode.
Also the Seat Leon TwinDrive has top speed of 170 Km/h when using both electricity and combustion.
