Renault is trying to exploit the fact that they are the only manufacturer that has a car homologated in each of FIA’s two-wheel drive classes by introducing the Twingo Renaultsport R1 and R2 Trophy.
These are two models featuring motorsport kits, which aim towards ‘budget conscious buyers’.
The Twingo Renaultsport R1 Trophy uses a 133 HP 1.6-litre engine and a gearbox identical to the ones found on the production model, but features ‘essential safety equipment’ and can participate on all regional, national and international rallies.
The Twingo Renaultsport R2 Trophy is pretty much characterised by the same features, with both cars scheduled to participate in two new single rake make rally championships that Renault Sport Technologies will launch in the UK next year.
The prize structure for these championships has not been confirmed yet, nor did the automaker announce how much will customers have to pay for one of these Trophy cars.
Patrice Ratti, CEO of Renault Sport Technologies said that "Renault Sport Technologies intensifies its presence in UK rallying and
the creation of a Trophy for Twingo in R1 and R2 categories makes me
very happy. The remarkable road holding abilities of Twingo Renaultsport
133 will help young rally drivers to compete in a national
championship, at an affordable price.  This new trophy will reinforce
the image of Renaultsport cars in the UK market which is extremely
important for our brand and where Renault Sport Technologies has been
enjoying a constant growth in the recent years."
