Nissan has had a tough time breaking the full-size pickup truck market with the current Titan.  The Big Three — Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, and Dodge Ram 1500 – continue to dominate the marketplace.  All three full-size pickups have been redesigned in the last two years.  So now, it is Nissan’s turn to redesign the TitanNissan introduced the new redesigned Titan XD on Monday at the Detroit Auto Show.

Engine

The 2016 Titan has three engine options with the XD version being a new V8 Cummings 5.0-liter turbodiesel engine.  The diesel with 310 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque mated to a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission and tows 12,000 pounds.  Nissan non-XD offers a V6 and V8 gasoline engine.  Ford and GM do not offer a diesel option in their light-duty trucks.  Ram does, but Nissan’s Cummings V8 diesel is more powerful.

Exterior

The new Titan is more impressive than the first generation Titan.   The Titan XD borrows some of its engineering and design components from Nissan’s commercial NV line.  The roof and tailgate spoilers make the truck aerodynamic. LED headlamps, taillamps, and puddle lamps are options.  Titan buyers can choose from three cabs and three bed lengths.

Interior

The new 2016 Titan has increased cabin storage, storage in center console, and locking storage under the second-row.  Cooled and heated front seats.  The bird’s-eye view camera is new to the Titan and shows surrounding areas while backing up or parking.

Nissan is hoping to gain market share with the new truck. However, with current gasoline prices lower than diesel prices in the states, the gasoline-powered competitors are more powerful and towing capacity.  The new Titan goes on sale later this year.
