Mercedes Benz has pulled the wraps off the Concept Style Coupe ahead of its world premiere at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show.
Characterised as a sporty executive coupe with an avantgarde style the Style Coupe is basically a smaller CLS that adopts the CLS styling at the rear but resembles more with the new A Class at the front, a car which just like the above mentioned models, draws inspiration from the F800 Concept.
The company’s new four door coupe measures 4,637 mm in length, 1,891 mm in width and 1,398 mm in height, and beneath its metal sheets lies a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol producing 211 HP via a 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic transmission and the vehicle’s all-wheel drive 4MATIC system.
Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars said that "The Concept Style Coupe is expressive and powerful in its design," "We are staking our claim very clearly here. This is the model against
which sporty vehicles in the executive segment will have to measure
themselves in future"
Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz also emphasised that "The almost production-standard Concept Style Coupe sets a new benchmark for avantgarde design in the executive segment," "Its breathtaking proportions, sinewy fluid surfaces and sculptural lines
are the physical expression of our dynamic design idiom."
The Concept Style Coupe is clearly a work of art on wheels from our point of view, and lets just hope Mercedes will retain most of its features when putting it into production.
Some of the highlights at the exterior include the diamond look grille, the muscular bonnet and its powerdome, the Alubeam paint finish, the innovative headlamps which shine red in standby mode and should resemble with the intimidating eyes of a predatory animal, and the 21 inch wheels in sporty turbine design.
Other elements include a large panoramic roof, frameless side windows, a dual flow exhaust system and a narrow rear diffuser that uses the same dotted pattern as the diamond grille.
Inside the Concept Style Coupe there are four individual seats, expressively sculptured surfaces, an instrument panel that reminds of an outstretched wing which makes use of carbon fiber, and materials such as white nubuck leather, anthracite-coloured Alcantara and suede.
