Mercedes has already confirmed the AMGT GT supercar will be using a newly developed V8 AMG engine. And now, the German manufacturer returns with some fresh info`s about the new petrol unit.
Codenamed M178, the new V8 engine develops 510 hp at 6250 rpm and delivers 650 Nm between 1750 and 4750 rpm. This is a 128 hp/liter ratio.
The petrol unit is also very lightweight, weighing only 209 kilograms, while having a displacement of 3982 cmc.
Being equipped with a start-stop function, the engine has a separate cooling-air flow for the exhaust gas turbochargers during high thermal load. It can respect the Euro 6 emissions standards.
The engine will be used on the AMG GT in two power versions. The most powerful will offer 510 hp and will equipp the AMG GT S model, while the lesser potent option will only deliver 462 hp.
This version will also be used on the Mercedes C63 AMG performance sedan, set to be unveiled this autumn in Paris Motor Show.
