Brabus, the notorious German tuner known for their impressive power upgrade programs is starting to care about the environment.
We say that because they have just announced the BRABUS Technology Project HYBRID, a car which is based on the Mercedes E 220 CDI that runs on just electricity. The car is expecting its word premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but until that happens we can tell you what this interesting project is all about.
Fitted with an 4 electric motors (one on each wheel / each rated at 50 kW in Eco mode and 80 kW in sport mode) and a 56 kWh lithium-ion battery, the BRABUS Technology Project HYBRID is capable of producing a total of 320 Kw and 3,200 Nm (2360 lb-ft) of torque.
If those figures get translated into performance then the BRABUS Technology Project HYBRID will sprint from 0 to 100 Km/h in 6.9 seconds (60 to 120 Km/h in 5.0 seconds), while its top speed is 220 Km/h (137 mph) due to the wheel hub motors’ redline of 2,000 rpm.
In Eco mode the car has a top speed of 190 Km/h (118 mph).
This all-wheel-drive electric E Class has a driving range of 350 Km (217 miles), and Brabus says that its battery will take one and a half hour to recharge at a 380 V three phase grid and five hours at a normal 220 V AC outlet.
