Mercedes has unveiled the new Renault Kangoo based Citan van, a vehicle which represents the fruit of a collaboration between Daimler and Renault Nissan.
This new van will appear in the flesh at the 2013 IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover in September, while production is going to take place at Renault’s Maubeuge factory in France, the same place where the Kangoo model is being assembled.
The new Citan is going to be available in three lengths: compact, long and extra-long, which will measure 3.4m , 4.32 m and 4.71 m respectively, and will also be offered in three body styles as panel van, crewbus and mixed-use vehicle/Mixo.
Daimler said that the engine options available for the 2014 Mercedes Citan will include three diesels featuring direct-fuel injection and particulate filters as standard, plus a supercharged petrol.
The diesels will output between 74 and 109 HP while the petrol is expected to deliver 113 horsepower.
In order to keep consumption figures as low as possible, the petrol model will come with ECO start stop, battery and generator management, plus optimised low rolling resistance tyres as standard, features which will also be available on the diesel variants as optional.
In terms of safety, the new Citan comes equipped with the Electronic Stability Program ADAPTIVE ESP program as standard, a dynamic handling control system that combines the functions of the anti-locking braking system ABS, VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) which counters over- and understeer, and TCS
(Traction Control System). It also includes ASR (Acceleration Skid
Control) and drive and braking torque control.
