The new generation Mercedes A Class has also been officially unveiled today in Geneva, a car which will be offered in three different variants : Urban, Style and AMG Sport and which will have the new BMW 1 Series as its main rival.
The new A Class looks greatly improved in terms of style if we were to compare it with the previous generation, with the car featuring sportier design cues that also help it achieve a lower drag coefficient of 0.26.
When it will go on sale in September the 2013 Mercedes A Class will be available with three diesel and three petrol motorisation options, and starting with the diesel lineup customers will find the A180 CDI with a 1.8-litre unit rated at 108 HP and 250 Nm of torque, the A200 CDI with the same engine that offers an increased output of 134 HP and 300 Nm and the A220 CDI powered by a 2.2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder plant capable of developing 168 HP and 350 Nm of peak torque.
The petrol range comprises from the A180 with a 1.6-litre turbocharged unit delivering 121 HP, the A200 with the same 1.6-litre plant but rated at 154 HP and the A250 powered by a 2.0-litre turbo which outputs 208 HP.
A performance AMG version A Class is also going to be introduced, and in this case we are talking about a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that should deliver more than 300 horses.
The 2013 Mercedes A Class will be offered with ECO start-stop as standard on all models, and in terms of transmission, customers will be able to choose between a 6-speed manual or a 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic.
