The Japanese carmaker Mazda is working on a new small SUV. Dubbed CX-3, the crossover is based on the next-gen Mazda2 and is set to compete against the mighty Nissan Juke.

The Mazda CX-3 will benefit from all the firm’s SkyActive technologies along with two special engines. We are talking about a 1.3 liter turbo unit and a 1.6 liter diesel.

In this class, two wheel drive small SUV’s outsell AWD versions, so the new crossover may be offered as a front wheel drive model only. Practically will be the key on the new CX-3 and the Japanese engineers are working on a special seat layout.

With a touch of a button, the rear sets fold flat and the customers will have more loading space. The new Mazda CX-3 will be priced in UK around 13.000 pounds and it should debut in early 2013.
