Lotus introduced today the new Elise S model, created for those who want the thrill of the track approved for the street. The car is derived from the Elise S Cup R, a car created only for the track.

To increase the sporty appearence, the new Elise S Cup uses a front splitter with end winglets, lateral bargeboards, a fixed roof, tail wing and a purposeful rear diffuser. The combined aerodynamic benefits increase downforce by 66kg at 100 mph and a remarkably effective 125kg at maximum velocity.

The S Cup variant has been developed both at Hethel and the Nürburgring Circuit in Germany.

The car has a maximum power of 217 hp at 6800 rpm and a maximum torque of 184 lb-ft at 4600rpm (250 Nm). For a 0-60 mph sprint it needs 4.2 seconds, while for the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) is 4.6 seconds. The maximum speed is 140 mph (225 km/h) while the fuel consumption reaches 37.5 mpg or 7.5 l/100 km.

UK price starts at £43,500 in the U.K. and €56,525 in Germany (or about $66,000 USD, but Lotus is not planning on selling it in the states).
