The Koreans from Kia have officially unveiled their first ever rear-wheel drive vehicle, namely the GT Concept, which will be seen in the flesh at the 64th edtiton IAA Motorshow.
The GT is a 4-door sports sedan with "muscular proportions" which, based on Gregory Guillaume’s statement (Kia’s European Design Chief) "…was inspired by the spirit of iconic 1970s GT cars: sumptuous and
elegant vehicles capable of whisking passengers from Paris to the South
of France in effortless style and at high speed.  We wanted to create
something similarly graceful, athletic and confident, but not aggressive
or overbearing."
The Kia GT Concept has an aeronautical theme which explains the car’s multi-piece propeller-style alloys, the jet-themed rear-view cameras, the unique looking diffuser or the winglets that curve and flow into the headlamps.
In terms of size the GT measures 4690 mm in length, 1890 mm in width and 1380 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2860 mm.
Kia says this Concept is a true RWD performance saloon, a statement which is backed by the fact that under the GT’s bonnet there is a gasoline burning 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 with direct fuel injection, capable of producing 395 PS and 534 Nm of torque via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Inside the GT, Kia has added single piece seats, a three spoke steering wheel, and an instrument panel made out of glass, which features three layers of organic LEDs. These LEDs allow for more information to be displayed on a smaller surface, which means the center console does not require the usual proliferation of controls, buttons and displays.
As far as ever seeing the Kia GT  the automaker remains ambiguous by saying "One of the great things about working on this project was that this is a
very real car,” says Schreyer.  “It felt good to be working on a car
that could roll down the road tomorrow.  Yes, it would be a dream to put
this into production – it has a logical layout, with four seats, and
good luggage space, and it’s also engaging and dynamic and makes a
strong statement.  It’s exactly the kind of car Kia should be making."
