Chrysler has unveiled the second high performance model wearing the SRT8 badge in New York today, and this time we’re talking about the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. The SUV is equipped with the new 6.4-litre HEMI V8 engine (the same found in the Chrysler 300 SRT8) which produces with around 40 horses more than the outgoing 6.1-litre HEMI V8, meaning 465 HP and 465 lb-ft of torque.
These increased figures turn the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 into one of the company’s fastest models ever built, and the SUV’s 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 4.8 seconds represents the ‘magic’ number backing that claim.
The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 can also sprint from 0 to 100 mph and then back to 0 in around 16.5 seconds, reaches the quarter mile from a stand still in around 13.5 seconds and is able to hit a maximum speed of 155 mph.
All this performance is reflected at the exterior through elements like a restyled bumpers which integrate LEDs at the front, a new grille that matches the body colour, a vented bonnet, a new exhaust and 20 inch aluminium wheels wrapped in Pirelli PZero tires.
Some of the highlights at the interior include seats covered with Nappa leather and suede, a sport steering wheel and various carbon fiber-like accents.
2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 price was not announced yet, but sales are expected to take off towards the end of summer
