Jaguar Land Rover has published new details about their new Ingenium engine family which will power a variety of models.

According to the British group, the new engines are designed to deliver class-leading levels of horsepower, torque and refinement. The new units are modular, flexible and can work with models with rear or all-wheel drive systems. They will also weight as much as 80 kg less than the equivalent engines that are in use today.

All the Ingenium engines will be built from lightweight aluminum blocks which each share the same bore, stroke, cylinder spacing and 500cc cylinder capacity. As a result the company will be able to "quickly and efficiently" develop larger or smaller displacement engines to meet future regulatory and competitive requirements.

As you imagined, the new Ingenium engine family will be available in petrol and diesel version and will feature state-of-the-art turbochargers that improve performance, particularly at low speeds, and that help reduce consumption and CO2 emissions.

The first engine to go into mass production will be a 2.0 turbocharged diesel unit which is internally known as AJ200D. For now, the company declined to release specifications but they have confirmed the engine will be one of the most efficient and responsive 2.0-liter turbodiesels in its segment.
