Honda has unveiled the 2013 Accord Coupe Concept at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show today, a vehicle that previews the 9th generation model scheduled to go on sale this fall.
Even though Honda says this is a glimpse of the athletic styling direction of the upcoming production model, we think the vehicle doesn’t really look too different from the current version available on the market.
Anyway, the 2013 Accord will be available with three completely new powertrains among which there will be a first US application of a 2.4-liter direct-injected engine and a
two-motor plug-in hybrid system in addition to the V6 plant.
The 2.4-litre engine will deliver 181 horses and 177 lb-ft of torque to the wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) while the 3.5-litre V6 will come linked to a six-speed automatic (six-speed manual also available) and is expected to produce more power, although the exact figures were not specified.
As for the two-motor plug-in hybrid system with its first application in the 2013 Honda Accord Sedan, it comprises from a 6
kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and a powerful 120 kW electric motor plus a  2.0-liter i-VTEC inline 4-cylinder, Atkinson cycle engine.
The 2.0-litre i-VTEC links to an Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT), and the whole system will enable the Accord to be driven in all-electric, gasoline-electric and direct-drive modes.
When driven in electric mode the 2013 Accord will be able to cover between 10 to 15 miles and hit a top speed of 62 mph. Recharging the battery to a full is expected to take less the 4 hours when using a 120 Volt outlet, and 1.5 hours using a 240 Volt charger.
