The Blue Oval has decided to introduce a performance version Ford Explorer called Sport which is most likely going to be unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show next week.
The car comes with sporty exterior design cues and an interior "inspired by designer accessory fashions", but to be more exact, we are talking about features such black painted 20 inch wheels, blacked out grille and headlamps, black roof rails and mirror cases along with redesigned front and rear skirts, plus Charcoal Black leather with contrasting Sienna inserts inside the cabin.
The 2013 Ford Explorer Sport also features a new steering wheel stitching, unique floor mats and illuminated scuff plates, while underneath its skin, the company’s engineers have reinforced the chassis in order to make the car faster and sharper in terms of handling.
Larger brakes and a solid-mounted electric power-assisted steering are also features part of the Sport treatment for the Explorer, with the car extracting power from a twin-turbo 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 producing ‘at least’ 350 HP via a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The Explorer Sport comes with a four-wheel-drive powertrain.
This new version will go on sale later this year, with pricing details yet to be announced.
