Citroen C4 Cactus Airflow 2L Concept will be unveiled during this year Paris Motor Show. As its name suggests the car is a hybrid version of the current C4 Cactus.
 
The standard C4 Cactus suffered some aerodynamic improvements, starting up front: the new bumper features three air intakes that continuously adjust in accordance with vehicle use, both for engine cooling and to regulate air flow. The wheels feature mobile shutters activated and controlled by centrifugal force.
 
The spoiler has been lengthened and an air extractor has been added on the rear bumper in order to reduce the turbulence that can increase drag.
 
The Citroen C4 Cactus Airflow 2L Concept manages also to be lighter by 100kg (200 lbs). This means Citroën managed to reduce the weight of the concept by 11% compared with the production vehicle. The French used aluminum, composite materials and high-yield steels.
 
Airflow technology uses compressed air to assist and even replace the petrol engine to enable maximum efficiency during transition phases, such as acceleration and starts.
 
The system includes a compressed-air tank below the boot, a low-pressure tank near the rear axle acting as an expansion chamber, a hydraulic system consisting of a motor and a pump in the engine bay. The conventional engine is a 1.0 liter, three-cylinder unit, delivering 82-hp.
 
This combination helps the car achieve impressive fuel consumption: only 2 liters/100 km (117 mpg).
