GM is preparing to introduce its most powerful convertible ever at this year’s Lost Angeles Motor Show. We’re talking about the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible, a car that packs more power than a 2012 Aston Martin Volante, an SL63 AMG, a 2011 911 Turbo S or a 2011 Shelby GT500, which will go on sale in late 2012.
Power in the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible comes from a 6.2-litre LSA engine rated at 580 HP (432 kW) and 556 lb-ft (754 Nm) of torque, and its performance figures should come close to what the coupe version is capable of.
But in order to give the Camaro ZL1 Convertible coupe like driving dynamics, the automaker had to make a few reinforcements which include the addition of a tower-to-tower brace under the hood, a transmission support reinforcement brace plus an underbody tunnel brace.
GM has also fitted the car with a front ‘X’ brace and a rear underbody "V" brace and added a stiffer cradle.
Structural reinforcement measures applied to the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible A pillars that include hydrofoamed tube, an inner reinforcement bracket in the windshield header, a reinforced front hinge pillar and reinforcements inside the rockers.
The ZL1 Convertible features the Magnetic Ride suspension and typical ZL1 body components that make the car look more aggressive.
