GM has just announced the ZL1 inspired 1LE performance package for the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro and has also confirmed that the LT, SS and ZL1 models will now be available with the MyLink infotainment system.
The 1LE package addresses the SS coupes with manual transmissions and contains chassis and suspension enhancements, along with stickier tires that will enable lateral acceleration forces beyond 1G.
Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer said that "The Camaro 1LE combines the best elements of the SS and ZL1 to take road-racing performance to a whole new level," "That the 1LE breaks the three-minute lap at VIR puts it in the upper
echelon of performance cars. That it starts under $40,000 makes the
Camaro 1LE one of the most affordable, most capable track-day cars
offered by any manufacturer."
Since it is based on the SS the Camaro 1LE uses a 6.2-litre LS3 V8 engine rated at 426 HP (318 kW) and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque, with the car’s 6-speed manual transmission being tuned for ‘road racing performance’ with with the upgraded suspension bits comprising from monotube rear dampers and larger stabilizer bars (27 mm at the front, 28 mm at the rear).
The 2013 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE also comes with a variable-effort electric power steering, a strut tower brace for improved steering feel and response, 20 inch aluminium wheels, ZL1 wheel bearings, toe links and rear shock mounts, a high-capacity fuel pump and an optional dual-mode exhaust system.
Visually, the 1LE package is distinguished by its matte-black hood, front splitter and rear spoiler, and also by its flat-bottom steering wheel and short-throw shifter which are trimmed in sueded-microfiber.
