BMW has officially unveiled today the all-new BMW X5 xDrive40e. As you already know, this is the production version of the X5 eDrive concept, the prototype that was unveiled in various form over the years.

Exterior

On the outside, the new BMW X5 xDrive40e has new spoilers, a modified grille and new wheels. According to BMW, the new plug-in hybrid will be officially showcased during the 2015 New York Auto Show, the event which will start on April 2.

Engine

Under the bonnet, the BMW X5 xDrive40e uses a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol unit that can deliver 245 horsepower and 350 Nm peak of torque. The combustion engine is helped by an electric one that was integrated in the transmission. The electric motor can deliver 113 HP and 250 Nm. As a result, the plug-in hybrid model car deliver 313 HP and 450 Nm peak of torque.

Performance

Under these conditions, the BMW X5 xDrive40e can run from stand still to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds, while the top speed is clocked at 210 km/h (130 mph). In the electric mode, the range goes up to 31 kilometers (19 miles) with a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph).

Because we are talking about a hybrid you should know that the fuel consumption declared by BMW is around 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers (71 mpg) with CO2 emissions of 77 grams per kilometer.
